On Wednesday, PAOK were given a real scare by PAS Giannina in Thessaloniki, but a late goal from newly signed Polish striker Karol Swiderski sealed a 2:1 win after Dimitris Pelkas’ penalty had been cancelled out by Dimitris Manos. As a result, they keep their eight-point lead over second placed Olympiacos intact, despite the Piraeus club thrashing AEL 4:0 at home thanks to Konstantinos Fortounis’ first career hat trick. PAS languish in lowly 13th while AEL move down to 11th.

In third, AEK are still trailing Olympiacos by six points, as they defeated Levadiakos 1:0 at home with Ezequiel Ponce scoring the only goal. For their part, Levadiakos occupy 15th position of the table with a mere 12 points, four away from OFI who drew 1:1 at home with Atromitos. Recently, Atromitos have fallen completely off the boil, and the Peristeri outfit are now six points behind AEK in fourth.

Before playing Panetolikos in Agrinio, Panathinaikos had been winless in 2019, but Giannis Bouzoukis’ excellent goal grabbed a 1:0 win which keeps them in touch with Atromitos. Just below them in sixth, Aris achieved a hugely important 1:0 triumph over rivals Xanthi, rising above their opponents as they dream of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

Panionios climbed to ninth after seeing off the challenge posed by Asteras Tripolis in Nea Smyrni, and 10th placed Lamia chalked up their third consecutive win with a 2:1 triumph over Apollon Smyrnis.
