SLGR Standings: PAOK showing no signs of stopping, Atromitos and Panathinaikos slip

At the Toumba Stadium, PAOK received little resistance from Panionios on Saturday, cruising to a 3:0 win against the Nea Smyrni outfit. Diego Biseswar and Vieirinha opened up a two-goal lead in the first half, and after Panionios were reduced to 10 men, Yevhen Shakhov completed the scoring. PAOK keep their eight-point advantage over Olympiacos intact, despite the Piraeus giants defeating lowly PAS Giannina 2:1 on the road. Lazaros Christodoulopoulos netted the winner after the two teams initially shared own goals.

After their superb start to the campaign, Atromitos have shown signs of faltering recently, and they continued their slide with a 1:2 loss at Xanthi. Prolific striker Efthymis Koulouris had broken the deadlock, but Petar Djurickovic equalised for Xanthi before Matias Castro converted a controversial penalty. As a result of AEK’s 3:0 win against Asteras Tripolis, Atromitos fall to fourth, with the reigning champions rising to third. Goals from Marko Livaja, Alef and Ezequiel Ponce (penalty) in the opening 20 minutes sealed a 3:0 victory for AEK against a below par Asteras Tripolis who are languishing in 11th spot.

Panathinaikos had been hoping to keep in touch with the leading pack, but a 0:1 loss to PAS Lamia 1964 on Monday evening has left them occupying a distant joint fifth place with Aris and Xanthi. For their part, Lamia have 14 points in 16 games, and the win helps their fight against relegation. Bottom clubs Apollon Smyrnis and Levadiakos drew a blank, an improving AEL moved into ninth with a gritty 0:0 tie with Aris, and OFI thrashed eighth placed Panetolikos 3:0. The Heraklion are 12th with 15 points.
