KOLOVOS NETS FIRST SUPER LEAGUE GOAL IN FIVE YEARS

Dimitris Kolovos is finally off the mark for Panathinaikos in the Super League. In truth, the 27-year-old has struggled since joining the Athenians from Omonia last year, but he finally registered his first Super League goal of the season on Wednesday as he headed past the Aris goalkeeper in Thessaloniki. It turned out to be the winner as Panathinaikos earned a 1-0 triumph.

Furthermore, this was Kolovos’ first Super League goal in five years, with his previous marker in the championship having been scored on May 3, 2015 with Panionios. 1900 days had passed since that marker for the Panthers before he grabbed the winning goal for Panathinaikos at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium.

MANTALOS MAKES 200TH APPEARANCE FOR AEK

Unfortunately for AEK, they failed to step up to the plate against PAOK at the Olympic Stadium, playing to an uninspiring 0-0 draw which has practically ended their hopes of finishing second and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. AEK must now beat Olympiacos on Sunday and hope that PAOK lose to Aris at home in order to snatch second spot of the standings.

However, despite the disappointing result, it was an important occasion for Petros Mantalos as the gifted attacking midfielder made his 200th appearance for AEK across all competitions. 126 have been tallied in the Super League, 15 in the second division, 37 in the Greek Cup and 22 in European tournaments.
