PAOK PLAY TO 0-0 DRAW FOR FIRST TIME SINCE SEPTEMBER 2017

PAOK really are struggling. Following their dire performance against Olympiacos in the first round of the playoffs, the Dikefalos tou Vorra were in desperate need of a victory over Panathinaikos on Saturday, but they couldn’t capitalise on a plethora of great chances at the Olympic Stadium. In the final minute of play, PAOK came close to even losing the game, as Argyris Kampetsis failed to score when alone inside the penalty area.

The last time when PAOK had played to a 0-0 draw in the Super League was on 11 September 2017 against Apollon Smyrnis in Rizoupoli. 86 league games had since passed before PAOK’s battle with Panathinaikos in Athens ended level at 0-0.

All previous Super League matches involving PAOK since that particular match against Apollon Smyrnis in 2017 had included at least one goal.

OLYMPIACOS LEAD THE WAY IN SCORING

The Erythrolefki are continuing to dominate. On Sunday evening, Olympiacos made short work of Aris in Piraeus, cruising to a confident 3-1 victory which protected their overwhelming 18-point advantage over second-placed AEK. Interestingly, Aris’ consolation goal from Brown Ideye was only the 10th marker which Olympiacos have conceded across the entire 2019/2020 Super League campaign.

Olympiacos have become the first Super League team to score 3,902 goals in the history of the domestic top flight. They have been registered across a grand total of 19,444 matches in the championship.

Here is the list of Super League teams to have scored over 3,000 goals in the league:

Olympiacos: 3,902

Panathinaikos: 3,743

AEK: 3,490

PAOK: 3,049

VALBUENA THE ASSIST KING

Yes, he may already be 35 years of age, but Mathieu Valbuena is still capable of producing several moments of magic on the pitch. In Olympiacos’ 3-1 triumph over Aris, the diminutive Frenchman dished out yet another assist with the Piraeus-based organisation, providing the decisive pass for Mohamed Camara’s opener. Incredibly, the attacking midfielder has now tallied 23 assists for Olympiacos across all competitions, with 11 of them having been witnessed in the Super League. Valbuena will remain at Olympiacos for the upcoming 2020/2021 season.
