PAOK FAIL TO SCORE FOR FIRST TIME SINCE NOVEMBER 2017

Producing a superb performance, Panathinaikos overpowered PAOK at the Olympic Stadium, claiming a confident 2-0 triumph with Federico Macheda converting a penalty and Anastasios Chatzigiovanis finishing neatly when clean through. PAOK, conceding only their second defeat of the Super League, failed to score a goal in the domestic championship for the first time since November 2017, when they were beaten 1-0 by AEK in Athens.

PAOK had scored in 69 consecutive Super League games before suffering a damaging loss to Panathinaikos at the OAKA. The Dikefalos tou Vorra now trail league leaders Olympiacos by two points.

Please note that this statistic does not include the 2017/2018 Super League games against Olympiacos and AEK which were abandoned.

PANATHINAIKOS CONTINUING TO IMPROVE

Panathinaikos are on a roll. Full of confidence, the Prasini have enjoyed a wonderful start to 2020, claiming five consecutive victories in the Super League without conceding a single goal in the process. Since late October, when Panathinaikos were beaten 2-1 by AE Larissa in the Greek capital, the Athenians have only lost one league game, with that defeat having been suffered against Olympiacos (1-0) on the road. Giorgos Donis’ troops trail third-placed AEK by a mere four points.

Interestingly, Panathinaikos have earned a grand total of 13 penalties in just 22 games this season so far, converting 10 of them.

MARTINS CLAIMS 40TH SUPER LEAGUE WIN

Pedro Martins, the head coach of Olympiacos since the summer of 2018, has now earned 40 Super League victories in charge of the Piraeus club, with the Erythrolefki comfortably defeating Xanthi 3-1 at the Karaiskakis Stadium on Saturday.

To date, the Portuguese manager has overseen 52 league games at the Olympiacos helm, tallying 40 wins, nine draws and three defeats. Olympiacos will look to remain at the top of the table when making the short trip to Peristeri for a match against Atromitos this weekend.
