PAOK STILL UNBEATABLE

The stunning unbeaten run continues. To their credit, Xanthi offered stubborn resistance at the Toumba Stadium on Saturday, but two late goals from Diego Biseswar and Jose Angel Crespo secured a gritty 2-0 win for PAOK which keeps the reigning champions in joint first place. Incredibly, PAOK are now undefeated in 48 consecutive Super League matches, with their last loss having been suffered in March 2018 against Asteras Tripolis.

PAOK have avoided defeat in 10 successive games against Xanthi, tallying six wins and four draws.

Moreover, PAOK have become the first Super League team in history to not concede any defeats in three separate halves of league seasons (entire 2018/2019 season, first half of 2019/2020 regular season).

PANATHINAIKOS LACKING CONSISTENCY

Panathinaikos cannot gain momentum. At the weekend, the Prasini couldn’t achieve the desired result against Volos NFC on the road, stuttering to a 1-1 draw which keeps the club in ninth position of the standings with 17 points on the board. Panathinaikos have only emerged victorious in nine of their 22 Super League matches during 2019.

In the current league campaign, Panathinaikos have recorded four wins in games against Panionios, Atromitos, AEK and Asteras Tripolis, but they are yet to string two consecutive victories together. The lack of consistency has resulted in the Athenians already falling 14 points behind the leading pair of Olympiacos and PAOK.

FIVE-STAR AEK PERFORMANCE

In desperate need of the three points, struggling AEK subsequently turned on the style against Panionios at the Olympic Stadium, scoring five unanswered goals to register an emphatic 5-0 victory which takes the Kitrinomavri into third position of the league table. Nelson Oliveira scored an impressive hat trick, before Daniele Verde and Petros Mantalos completed the scoring with two excellent goals.

This was the first time since the 19th round of the 2016/2017 season - a 6-0 triumph over Veria at the OAKA - when AEK scored a minimum of five goals in one Super League game. The game against Panionios on Saturday was Nikos Kostenoglou’s final match at the AEK helm.
