Sokratis scores in Dortmund's thrashing of Koln
Sokratis Papastathopoulos scored Borussia Dortmund’s second goal in a 5-0 thrashing of FC Koln in Sunday’s German Bundesliga encounter.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos scored his first goal of the season in Borussia Dortmund’s 5-0 blow-out win over FC Köln. The Greek defender doubled his side’s lead just before halftime, taking advantage of the opposing keeper’s mistake and tapped the ball into the net from close range. Sokratis’ goal was confirmed using the VAR (video review) system as the replay showed that the 29-year old defender did not commit a foul during the play.
Sokratis’ goal has been a big controversy in Germany this weekend despite the VAR system. Koln are requesting a re-match to be played arguing that Sokratis committed a foul during his goal scoring play, and that the goal helped shape the final result. However, Koln’s appeal will likely be disregarded.
Papastathopoulos captained his side for yet another game this season as Dortmund sit atop the Bundesliga standings tied with Hannover after four games.
