During the game at Zalgiris Kaunas, which Olympiacos lost 69-94, Spanoulis left the court early with an ankle injury. Sadly, subsequent medical tests ruled that Spanoulis has suffered a tendon rupture in his right ankle, meaning he will miss the remainder of the 2019/2020 season. It is expected that Spanoulis will sit on the sidelines for at least five months.

Spanoulis, 37, became the leading scorer in EuroLeague history during a match against Fenerbahce at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

In the current EuroLeague regular season, Spanoulis made 22 appearances for the Erythrolefki, contributing with an average of 11.3 points, 4.6 assists and 1.2 rebounds. He twice won the EuroLeague with Olympiacos in 2012 and 2013.

Spanoulis successfully underwent surgery on Friday. He will now follow a specific recovery program in order to get himself ready for the 2020/2021 season.

Olympiacos currently occupy 12th position of the regular season with 10 victories and 14 defeats. The Piraeus-based club produced a fantastic performance to defeat CSKA Moscow at home on Thursday.
