Stefanidi to skip 2020 indoor season

Stefanidi to skip 2020 indoor season

Greek pole vaulter Katerina Stefanidi will miss the 2020 indoor season, including the World Athletics Indoor Championships, as she will instead focus on the outdoor season where she will aim to defend her titles at both the Olympics and the European Championships.

Stefanidi, who was a bronze medalist at the last two World Indoor Championships, has decided to not aim for gold at the 2020 Championships in Nanjing, China. It should be noted that Stefanidi has won gold at every major international competition except for the World Indoor Championships, and her next chance will be in 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

This means that Stefanidi will only compete in 2020 during the outdoor season, which includes the Olympics in Tokyo, and the subsequent European Championships in Paris. She will look to not only defend her titles at those events, but also in the Diamond League. The Diamond League takes place throughout the summer, and Stefanidi is the four-time defending champion in the women’s pole vault event.
