First-half goals from Toni Šunjić (33) and Edin Višća (44) gave Mehmed Baždarević’s visitors a comfortable-looking cushion when the teams headed into the dressing rooms at half-time.

But an amazing turnaround began with two goals in a red-hot three minute period for the home side from Dimitris Christofi (65) and Vincent Laban (67) which levelled the scores and had the GSP stadium bouncing.

From that point the match could gone either way as both sides enjoyed chances the possession, however, it was Cyprus who made it count when Pieros Sotiriou netted with 16 minutes left to seal a legendary fightback.

It is a result which puts a serious dent in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s World Cup 2018 qualifying hopes, as they are two points adrift of second-placed Greece, while Cyprus themselves have now made a statement for their own prospects.

Ran Ben Simon’s Cypriot team are now fourth in the group but are just three points adrift of neighbors Greece, meaning it’s all to play for between all three of those teams as the qualifying stage heads into the final stretch this autumn.
