The trio of Olympiacos, PAOK, and Panathinaikos have all seen an improvement in their average crowd figures this season. This is based on the official statistics and figures from the Super League itself. The data obtained for this season is only up to Matchday 26 but even with the last 4 rounds not taken into consideration, it still sets a four year record.

Starting with Olympiacos, last season’s average attendance of 19,133 has risen to 20,606 this season. PAOK’s has risen from 16,949 to 17,804. Panathinaikos’ has risen from 6,948 to 8,076. In the case of the latter two, on-field improvements have helped this figures. PAOK have yet to lose a game this season and remain on course to become only the second team since Panathinaikos in 1963-64 to go through an entire season without tasting defeat.

A better average of this season’s top 10 teams relative to last season’s has also played a vital role. The promotion of Aris and OFI to the top flight has assisted as the duo are well-supported.

After 30 rounds in the 2017/18 season, the overall attendance for the Super League was 949,051 (with an average of 4,237). This season after only 26 rounds it sits at 1,116,127 (with an average of 5,445).

Even if you go back to the last two seasons, it is still higher. In 2016/17, the overall attendance was 1,006,530 (with an average of 4,026) and in 2015/16, the overall attendance was 1,042,228 (with an average of 4,307).

The best season in recent years in terms of attendances was 2009/10. In that season, the league recorded an overall attendance of almost 2 million people - 1,970,293 to be precise (with an average of 7,945). Panathinaikos won the league-cup double and boasted quality, well-known internationals, and had the highest average crowd figures. Ever since then, Olympiacos has led the way.
