On Thursday, the Super League organisation released this following statement:

“On Friday 13 March, at 18:45, a Board of Directors meeting will be held at the Super League offices concerning the suspension of the Super League 1 championship (playoffs/playouts) for an unspecified amount of time to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.”

Interestingly, the postponement of the Super League couldn’t be confirmed today, because Olympiacos have reportedly requested for the competition to continue. All other clubs are supposedly in favour of the league being postponed.

Several leagues across Europe have been brought to a halt because of the coronavirus which is continuing to cause havoc. Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the Basket League, EuroLeague, EuroCup and Basketball Champions League have all been called off as a result of the same reason.

Experts have predicted that the coronavirus could become less of a threat in the summer assuming that countries take the necessary precautions.

The 2019/2020 Super League regular season ended almost two weeks ago. Olympiacos, PAOK, AEK, Panathinaikos, OFI and Aris qualified for the playoffs, while all remaining teams dropped down into the relegation playouts.
