In January 2019, Szymanski made the move to Akhmat from Wisla Plock in his native Poland, but the central midfielder hasn’t settled in the Russian Premier League. So far, the 24-year-old has only competed in four league matches this season, and Chechen club Akhmat are willing to let him go.

The latest reports have suggested that Akhmat and AEK have struck a deal which will see Szymanski play on loan in Athens for the remainder of the 2019/2020 campaign. Szymanski is a competent midfielder, capable of both protecting the defence and providing solid service to the attackers. He has played in four matches with the senior Polish national team.

Transfermarkt rates his value at one million euros.

In the past, Szymanski has also represented Belchatow and Jagiellonia.

MEMISEVIC INTEREST

AEK are expressing high interest in Bosnian central defender Samir Memisevic.

According to the media, Memisevic is in favour of a transfer to AEK, but his current employers Groningen are not keen on losing him. Memisevic, rated at two million by Transfermarkt, has played in eight Eredivisie matches in the 2019/2020 season, scoring one goal and grabbing a further two markers in the Dutch Cup.

Nevertheless, if AEK increase their monetary offer for the 26-year-old defender, Groningen could be persuaded to sell. AEK, plagued by defensive problems, are eager to sign a centre-back in the January transfer window.

SIMAO MOVE TO KAYSERISPOR FALLS THROUGH

Last week, it seemed certain that Portuguese midfielder David Simao would move to Kayserispor on loan, but his transfer to the Turkish club is reportedly off the table.

Kayserispor allegedly discovered problems with Simao’s eyesight during his medical examinations.

“They are stupid,” remarked Simao’s agent. “He has played for Benfica, Pacos Ferreira, Academica, Boavista, Arouca, CSKA Sofia, Antwerp and AEK, but he has never had any kind of vision problem! I will find another team for my player and you will see that he is perfectly healthy.”

Simao, signed by AEK from Royal Antwerp in the off-season, has failed to make any kind of impression and is not training with the first team.

TANKOVIC INTEREST STILL THERE

In 2019, AEK wanted to sign Swedish winger Muamer Tankovic from Hammarby, and the possibility of the transfer happening is still there after his proposed move to Genoa did not come to fruition.

Tankovic, born in Sweden to a Bosnian family, has played for Norrkoping, Fulham, AZ Alkmaar and Hammarby. Overall, in his career, the 24-year-old has played in 70 Allsvenskan games, tallying 22 goals and 14 assists. His contract with Hammarby will expire in June.

He has vowed to move abroad from Sweden.

At the moment, there is no concrete information stating that AEK and Hammarby are in negotiations, but the Swedes will want to sell now taking into account that Tankovic is available to leave for free in the summer. AEK are contemplating whether to make a bid.
