AEK released this following statement concerning the signing of Szymanski:

“AEK FC announces its agreement with Akhmat Grozny for the purchase of Damian Szymanski, who has signed a four-year contract with our team.”

Szymanski joined AEK on loan from Akhmat in January. Initially, AEK had a purchase option of 1.5 million euros, but that amount was reduced to 1.3 million after lengthy negotiations with the Chechen club. It’s worth noting that Akhmat retain a 15% resale rate for the 25-year-old Polish midfielder.

“From the first day when I joined AEK, I said that I must do everything in order to stay here,” remarked Szymanski after the signing of his contract. “I am really happy that I can calmly continue my career here with the biggest team in Greece. I thank everyone who has shown faith in me. From now on, the most important thing is to work hard every day. I promise that I will give my soul for AEK. I want to achieve our goals and stay with the club.”

Since moving from Akhmat in the winter, Szymanski has impressed with his excellent performances in midfield for Massimo Carrera’s team, providing an effective link between defence and attack. Szymanski has made 16 appearances for AEK to date.

HULT AND KLONARIDIS BOTH LEAVE

However, on a negative note, AEK confirmed the departure of left-back Niklas Hult and attacker Viktor Klonaridis:

At first, it was expected that the pair would extend their respective AEK contracts beyond June 30, but that didn’t happen. Hult and Klonaridis have left the Enosi with immediate effect.

This season, Hult competed in 18 matches for AEK across all competitions, with the 30-year-old Swede having previously won the Super League two years ago after transferring from Panathinaikos in January 2018.

Klonaridis returned to AEK in July 2017. At times, the talented 27-year-old forward showed glimpses of his potential, but he was often hindered by injury problems and a lack of consistency. He scored two goals in the 2019/2020 Super League season in matches against Volos NFC and Panionios on the road.
