After it was announced last week that no tennis (including lower level and junior tournaments) would take place anywhere in the world for the next six weeks, tennis’ governing bodies have now cancelled additional tournaments. In a joint statement, the ATP and WTA said that the tours will be further suspended until June 8. This means that the European clay court season will not take place, but organizers are hopeful for the grass court swing.

That statement also mentioned that the ATP and WTA rankings will be frozen until further notice. It remains unclear how the rankings will work once the tours resume, and more details on this process are expected to be revealed at a later date. The ranking systems (up until now) were based on points gained in the past 52 weeks, and are used for tournament entry cut-offs and seedings.

As a result, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas will remain at number six in the ATP rankings, and Maria Sakkari’s WTA ranking will stay at number 20 in the world. Also on the WTA, Despina Papamichail and Valentini Grammatikopoulou will remain at numbers 264 and 300 respectively. In total, Greece has 14 men with ATP rankings, and eight women with WTA rankings at the moment.
