In the past decade, three strikers monopolised the goal-scoring charts, but at the same time, there are also some surprising names on the list.

Scoring goals is not as easy as it once was. While there is still the odd high scoring fixture, defences have generally tightened up over the years. Defenders have become more athletic, and a shift to defensive formations has made it even harder for strikers to find the back of the opposition net.

Only one player in the last decade managed to score 20 goals in a single season - Marcus Berg for Panathinaikos in the 2016-17 season scored a whopping 22 goals. It is no shock that the Swede was the top goal scorer over the past decade as he spent a considerable amount of time at Panathinaikos and enjoyed many top performances. He scored 73 goals in 115 appearances.

However, Berg was not alone in his domination. Kostas Mitroglou and Stefanos Athanasiadis also enjoyed success. Mitroglou, who earnt a big-money move to Fulham along the way, scored 71 goals in 128 appearances for Olympiacos, Panionios (loan), and Atromitos (loan). Meanwhile, Athanasiadis amassed 69 goals in 216 appearances for PAOK and PAS Giannina.

Kostas Fortounis was the highest-scoring player who was not a striker. The attacking midfielder notched 54 goals from 154 appearances for Olympiacos and Asteras Tripolis. He spent time away from Greece at one point and picked up a nasty injury in 2019, so his tally could have been even higher.

Michalis Manias was the highest-scoring player who did not feature for one of the ‘Big 4’ teams. The striker scored 51 goals in 161 appearances for Apollon Smyrnis, Aris, PAS Giannina, and Asteras Tripolis.

Dimitris Salpingidis scored 44 goals in 174 appearances for Panathinaikos and PAOK but retired by the halfway point of the decade.

Other notable strikers who missed out on the top 10 are Aleksandar Prijovic (35 goals), Djibril Cisse (36 goals), Marko Markovski (38 goals), Dimitris Papadopoulos (38 goals), Kevin Mirallas (36 goals), Ben Nabouhane (36 goals), Christos Aravidis (35 goals), Nikos Kaltsas (34 goals), Emanuel Perrone (34 goals), Petros Mantalos (34 goals), Nicolas Diguiny (33 goals), Giorgos Manousos (33 goals), Tasos Bakasetas (33 goals), and Javier Umbides (33 goals).
