Yesterday, PAOK proved too strong for a disjoined Olympiacos side in Thessaloniki, claiming an emphatic 3:1 victory which has opened up a large, surely decisive nine-point advantage in first place with 10 matches to go.

So far, the Dikefalos tou Vorra have claimed 18 victories and two draws in 20 Super League matches, beating the previous club record which was remaining undefeated for the first 19 games in the 1972/1973 season under the guidance of Les Shannon. PAOK now need to avoid defeat in the concluding 10 games of the campaign in order to become the second Greek team in history after Panathinaikos to go without any losses in one particular edition of the domestic championship.

The last time when PAOK suffered defeat on the pitch was against Asteras Tripolis (2:3) on March 4, 2018, however their undefeated streak of 25 matches only started after the abandoned derby match with AEK in which the Thessaloniki club were handed a 0:3 technical loss. If we discard the two home losses against Olympiacos and AEK which were dished out in court, PAOK have now won an incredible 24 consecutive Super League games at the Toumba Stadium, with 13 of them being tallied last season and 11 in the current campaign. In the 2018/2019 season, PAOK’s remaining Super League home matches will be played against Aris, Atromitos, Lamia and Levadiakos.

PAOK hadn’t scored three goals against Olympiacos in one match since February 26, 2003, when they beat the Erythrolefkoi 3:1 at home in the Greek Cup. Also, PAOK have done the double over Olympiacos this season (1:0 in Piraeus, 3:1 in Thessaloniki), and this was last achieved in the 1988/1989 season (1:0 away, 1:0 home). The two wins against Olympiacos in the 2009/2010 campaign both came in the European playoffs and not in the regular season.
