After not being called up in June for two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Italy and Armenia under Angelos Anastasiadis, Vasilis Torosidis returned to the national team under new boss John Van’t Schip. The Olympiacos right-back was included in the starting XI for Thursday’s qualifier against Finland and registered his 101st cap with the national team. By making his 101st appearance, the Greek captain became the Ethniki’s fourth highest capped player in team history, surpassing Euro 2004 legend Angelos Basinas (100 appearances).

Ahead of Torosidis are Kostas Katsouranis (116 caps), Theodoros Zagorakis (120 caps), and Georgios Karagounis (139 caps). In a postgame interview on Thursday, Torosidis indicated that this will likely be his last year of professional football, meaning that he will fall short of catching Ethniki legend Kostas Katsouranis.

Torosidis debut with the national team in a EURO 2008 qualifier against Turkey on March 24, 2007, and since then has been a key player for the Ethniki over the last 12 years.
