David Blatt’s rebuild of the Olympiacos roster continues this week after the Piraeus giants announced the acquisition of both Axel Toupane and Jannis Timma.

Toupane, who faced-off against Olympiacos in the EuroLeague playoffs last season, makes the move to the port city after his contract with EuroLeague rivals Zalgiris Kaunas expired at the end of season.

Olympiacos announced that Toupane had signed a two-year deal with the club, though there is an opt-clause included in the deal at the end of the first season.

A French international, Toupane returned to Europe last season after a previous stint with French side SIG Strasbourg from 2011-2015. After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft, Toupane returned to chasing the NBA dream in 2015 when he signed with the Toronto Raptors’ NBA G League affiliate, the Raptors 905.

Toupane would go on to feature for a handful of NBA clubs after an initial season in Toronto, including a short stint with Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks in 2017.

Meanwhile, Olympiacos’ second acquisition this week comes after the Piraeus outfit successfully negotiated Timma’s release from Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz.

Timma remained under contract at Baskonia for the upcoming season, but the two clubs agreed to a deal that will see Olympiacos inherit part of the contract on a two-year contract with the Latvian international.

Timma is expected to fill-in as a depth player at small forward behind expected starter Kostas Papanikolaou, but the 26-year-old could also feature as a power forward next season.

Toupane and Timma are the fourth and fifth acquisitions made by Olympiacos this summer after previously adding Nigel Williams-Goss, Zach LeDay, and Sash Vezenkov already this offseason.
