Trikala draw away to Veria, Key wins for Ionikos and Niki Volou
Trikala played to a 1-1 draw away to Veria while Ionikos and Niki Volou both recorded victories over the weekend in the Football League.

Trikala had a great opportunity to practically secure promotion to the Super League 2 in their away fixture to Veria. Despite holding a lead deep into second-half stoppage time, Trikala settled for a point in a 1-1 draw. The visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Stamatis, but a spot-kick in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time from Pasas salvaged a point for Veria. The result keeps Trikala top of the table, three points ahead of second-placed Ionikos, while Veria dropped to fourth with 31 points.
Ionikos continued their good form as they took down Egaleo 3-0 on Sunday. The hosts opened the scoring in the 30th minute with Kritikos’ successful spot-kick after Stathis committed a foul in the penalty area and was sent off with a second yellow card. Vlachomitros then doubled Ionikos’ lead on the stroke of half-time to give his side a commanding advantage. Matsoukas added a third for Ionikos in the 77th minute to seal the victory for the hosts. Ionikos remain in second place, three points behind leaders Trikala and five points ahead of third-placed Niki Volou.
Niki Volou recorded an important victory in their fight for promotion as they defeated Diagoras 2-1. Tsiolis opened the scoring for the Volos side in the seventh minute and Garcia, from the penalty spot, doubled the hosts’ lead three minutes before the break. Bourlakis pulled one back for the islanders in the 62nd minute, but Niki Volou held on for a key victory. Niki Volou moved into third place, ahead of Veria, on 32 points and five points behind second-placed Ionikos.
In other action, Kavala and Ierapetra played to a goalless draw, a result that benefits neither side. Ialysos thrashed Olympiacos Volou 4-0 while Kalamata picked up a big 1-0 victory over Triglia in their fight to avoid the drop. Thesprotos gained a four-point cushion from the drop zone with a 1-2 victory over Aspropyrgos.
