Trikala increase lead atop Football League standings
Trikala increased their lead atop the Football League standings after recording a narrow victory away to Kalamata while both Ionikos and Veria dropped points over the weekend.

A successful spot-kick in second-half stoppage time was enough for Trikala to come away 0-1 winners away to Kalamata in a match to forget in this season's Football League. In the 90 minutes of play, neither side threatened for the opener, and with the game heading for a goalless draw, Stamatis was brought down in the box in the game's final play. Rizogiannis stepped up to convert the penalty and give the visitors a valuable three points. The result moves Trikala four points atop the Football League standings while Kalamata drop to tenth (three-way tie) with 11 points.
With Trikala's win, second-placed Ionikos fell further behind in the fight for promotion as they were held to a goalless draw away to Kavala. The hosts produced more of a threat in each half but could not find the breakthrough. The result keeps Ionikos in second place on 21 points, four behind leaders Trikala, while Kavala sit in sixth with 16 points.
Veria were handed a shock 1-0 defeat away to Ialysos on Sunday. It was a 30th-minute penalty from Makrydimitris that separated the sides at the final whistle as Veria now sit seven points adrift leaders, Trikala. Ialysos moved out of the bottom spot in the league and now claim 13th place with nine points.
In other action, both sides from Volos were victorious, with Niki Volou easily defeating Aspropyrgos 3-0 and Olympiacos Volou recording a narrow 0-1 win away to Egaleo. Ierapetra sit tied for fourth with Olympiacos Volou after they took down bottom of the table Thesprotos 1-0 while Triglia and Diagoras played to a 1-1 draw.
