Prior to this match, the two players had never played against each other before. The Canadian served to stay in the first set down 4-5, and won three consecutive games to take the set 7-5. As in the first set, one break of serve was all that Raonic would need in the second set, taking it 6-4. With neither player able to hold a single break point in the third set, the two went to a tiebreak. Raonic prevailed 7-2 in that tiebreak to win the match in straight sets and advance to the round of 16.

The Canadian was perfect on serve, not facing a single break point the entire match and winning 89% of points on his first serve. Raonic also served 19 aces, while Tsitsipas only hit nine. Raonic won 29/41 points at net, while Tsitsipas won 7/15 at net.

Raonic, the world number 35 who was a quarterfinalist here last year, will take on 2018 runner-up Marin Cilic of Croatia on Sunday in his next match.
