Tsitsipas reaches career-highs

Following runs to the singles final and doubles semifinals in Madrid, Stefanos Tsitsipas moved up to career-high ATP rankings of number 7 in singles and number 75 in doubles.

Tsitsipas, who previously held a career-high ATP singles ranking of 8 in the world, moved up from 9 to 7 this week. His previous career-high ATP doubles ranking was 98 in the world, and he also moved up from 101 to 75 this week in those rankings.

With two big events (Rome and the French Open) left in the European clay court swing, Tsitsipas will likely rise even more as his main rivals are defending a lot of points over the next few weeks. Austria’s Dominic Thiem will be defending 1,390 points between now and Paris. Germany’s Alexander Zverev will be defending 960 points, and Japan’s Kei Nishikori will be defending 360 points. On the other hand, Tsitsipas is only defending 115 points and has a very good chance of passing all three of these guys in the rankings within the next month.

In the ATP Race to London singles rankings (year-to-date rankings), Tsitsipas is currently fourth in the world, just behind Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer. The top 8 players at the end of the season will qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals, the year-end championship event. In the ATP Race to London doubles rankings, Tsitsipas and his Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof moved up 12 spots this week from 25 to 13. This is especially impressive as the duo have only played three tournaments together this year.
