Having won both of his previous matches against the Spaniard in straight sets, Tsitsipas was a big favorite to win again this time around. The Greek dominated the match from the get-go, winning the match in just an hour and 40 minutes without facing a single break point. Tsitsipas served a total of 13 aces, while Ramos-Vinolas did not hit any throughout the match.

The 22-year-old from Athens will now take on American wildcard Maxime Cressy (world number 168) in the second round on Wednesday. Cressy is making his Grand Slam main draw debut, and has never played against Tsitsipas before.

Before Tsitsipas takes the court again, Greece’s Maria Sakkari will face Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele (world number 114) in her first round match on Tuesday. Sakkari, seeded 15th here, lost to Voegele both times they played against each other previously. However, their last match was two and a half years ago, and Sakkari will come into this match as the heavy favorite to advance. Voegele has also not won a main draw match at a Grand Slam tournament since the 2017 Australian Open.
