As previously reported on AGONAsport, the EPO recently revealed the list of the six venues which can be used for home games of the Greek national team in the Nations League:

Olympic Stadium (Athens)

Georgios Kamaras Stadium (Athens)

Karaiskakis Stadium (Piraeus)

Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium (Thessaloniki)

Toumba Stadium (Thessaloniki)

Pankritio Stadium (Heraklion)

The Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium, the home ground of Aris and famous for being one of the loudest in Greece, was immediately suggested to be the EPO’s first choice. Without a running track around the perimeter of the pitch, the stadium is capable of generating plenty of noise when full, making it an intimidating place for the opposing team. Nevertheless, not long after the announcement was released by the EPO, Gazzetta reported that the Georgios Kamaras Stadium is the joint favourite to become the new home of the Ethniki Omada.

A tight, compact stadium located in the neighborhood of Rizoupoli, Apollon Smyrnis’ arena is not easy for opponents to play at, with the home supporters situated in close proximity to the pitch. AEK are expected to use the stadium for their home matches during the 2020/2021 season before their Agia Sofia Stadium is ready for use in Nea Filadelfeia.

The final decision concerning the home arena of the national team will be made in July.

As it stands, the 2020/2021 Nations League campaign is still due to begin in September, but the coronavirus pandemic is highly likely to result in the tournament being postponed to a later date. Greece were drawn into Group 3 of League C alongside Kosovo, Moldova and Slovenia.
