On Thursday, UEFA released this following statement:

“In the light of the ongoing developments in the spread of COVID-19 across Europe and the changing analysis of the World Health Organisation, UEFA has today invited representatives of its 55 member associations, together with the boards of the European Club Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to attend meetings by videoconference on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football's response to the outbreak.

“Discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020.

“Further communication will be made following those meetings.”

Several domestic European leagues have already decided to postpone their seasons until the situation concerning the coronavirus improves. The Super League in Greece is expected to be suspended on Friday, while the Basket League, EuroLeague, EuroCup and Basketball Champions League have all ended for the time being.

In the summer, UEFA Euro 2020 is due to take place across a number of European countries, however reports are suggesting that it will be put back until 2021. Greece did not qualify for the competition after finishing behind Italy and Finland in the qualification phase.

Registered cases of the coronavirus, now a pandemic, are continuing to rise.
