Panathinaikos released this following statement on Thursday:

“Panathinaikos FC announces the return of Lucas Villafanez to his home. The 28-year-old footballer will wear the Trifylli on his chest again after 2.5 years away, returning after leaving in January 2018. He has signed a two-year contract.”

Villafanez returns to Panathinaikos as a free agent following the completion of his contract with Monarcas Morelia in Mexico.

The Argentine attacking midfielder became a fan’s favourite in Athens during his first spell at Panathinaikos from February 2016 to January 2018. In the winter transfer window of 2018, Villafanez moved to Alanyaspor for one million euros, spending 18 months in Turkey before transferring to Monarcas Morelia last summer.

Overall, during his maiden stint as a Panathinaikos player, Villafanez contributed with 20 goals and 15 assists in 91 Super League appearances. He is capable of playing either down the middle or on the wings.
