Volos bounced back from last week’s defeat to Super League leaders PAOK with a narrow 1-0 home victory over Lamia at the Panthessaliko Stadium on Saturday, a result which helped the Magnesia side move away from the lower reaches of the table, while OFI and Larissa played out a 0-0 draw.

Vaqsilis Efrem-Mantzis scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute, bundling home a cross from Juan Muniz and ending up in the back of the net along with the ball.

It was a scrappy goal but a win which Alberto Gallego’s side just about deserved after creating the best chances and controlling more of the possession in what was overall a closely-contested Matchday 22 affair.

Volos move up to ninth in the standings with 25 points, while Lamia were knocked down to 11th as a result of their defeat.

Meanwhile in Heraklion, OFI Crete and Larissa gave their all in a tough match at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium that ended in a goalless stalemate with both attacks misfiring in an otherwise entertaining match.

There were some fascinating one-on-one battles all over the pitch in a tightly-contested Matchday 22 encounter between two teams who were separated by only three points, but unfortunately there were no goals at the end of the 90 minutes.

OFI squandered the best chances which came in the second half, with both Ricardo Vaz and João Figueiredo failing to trouble Larissa goalkeeper Ogmundur Kristinsson from good positions inside the penalty area on 66 and 73 minutes respectively.

Larissa’s Icelandic ‘keeper Kristinsson then pulled off an amazing save from Figueiredo’s header in stoppage time to preserve the 0-0 scoreline.

The result meant that OFI could not take advantage of being at home and claim three points that would have lifted them up to fifth, so the Cretans remain fifth with 28 points, while Larissa remain in 10th place.
