Trikala maintained their five-point cushion atop the Football League standings after their 1-0 victory over Aspropyrgos on Saturday. The hosts were the better side in the 90 minutes of play and could have opened the scoring in the first half with Sandravelis (18) and Tsipras (25), but both players failed to find the back of the net. Trikala maintained their pressure after the restart, and Palaez’s 68th-minute marker separated the sides at the final whistle. The result leaves Aspropyrgos in 11th place and in the relegation zone.

Two second-half goals were enough for Ionikos to dispatch Niki Volou 2-0 on Saturday. After a goalless first half where both sides had good chances to open the scoring, it was Vlachomitros who found the breakthrough for the hosts in the 69th minute. Three minutes from the end, Kritikos doubled Ionikos’ lead to seal the three points for the Nikaia side. Ionikos sit in second place, trailing leaders Trikala by five points while holding a four-point cushion over third-placed Veria. Niki Volou are mid-table with 29 points along with Kavala.

Veria fell off the pace for second place as they fell away to Egaleo 1-0. Veria created multiple goal-scoring chances but failed to capitalize. As a result, it was the hosts who made Veria pay as Tsiligris’ successful spot-kick in second-half stoppage time gave Egaleo an important victory. Veria remain in third place, four points behind second-placed Ionikos, while Egaleo moved out of the relegation zone into tenth place on 21 points.

Olympiacos Volou moved up to 30 points, along with Veria, after taking down struggling Kalamata 2-1 in Volos. Tsiaras opened the scoring for the hosts in the third minute, and Olympiacos Volou created opportunities to double their lead. However, Tsiaras’ goal was canceled out on the half-hour mark with Bousbiba’s marker for Kalamata. The match headed for a draw, but it was Tsitas who proved to be the hero with his header finding the back of the net in second-half stoppage time to give Thessaly side a vital win in their fight for promotion. Kalamata sit second from bottom with just 15 points from 19 games.

In other action, Thesprotos recorded a shocking 1-0 win over Kavala while Ierapetra defeated relegation-bound Triglia 3-0. Diagoras defeated Ialysos 3-1 and moved into a three-way tie with Kavala and Niki Volou for fifth place.
