Georgios Paraschos’s Xanthi side had to weather a short opening 20-minute storm during which the home side were on top, but then the Akrites dominated the rest of the game and missed several good chances.

The result was a fourth draw of the season for both sides, and Xanthi move level on 28 points with OFI but behind the Cretans in seventh place on goal difference, while Panionios remain rooted to the foot of the table with 10 points.

The Panthers, who have endured a nightmare season, are three points behind 13th-placed side Panetolikos with three matches of the regular season to go.

Goalless in Lamia

There was another stalemate in Fthiotida in Saturday’s later match as hosts Lamia and Larissa shared the spoils of a goalless draw.

Akits Mantzios’ Lamia were probably the happier side with the result as the game turned out, since the home side struggled to create chances while Larissa could have sewn up the three points if Thanasis Papazoglou had decided to wear his shooting boots.

The AEL No. 11 wasted the game’s best chance after 63 minutes when he fired wide from a great position following a good run and cross from Amr Warda.

Both sides remain where they were in the table as a result. Larissa are ninth with 26 points, while Lamia are 11th with 25 points.
