Since the start of March, the nation has been battling against the coronavirus like all other European countries, with the illness continuing to cause havoc across the globe. At the time of writing, 67 people have died of COVID-19 in Greece, with 1,613 cases of the virus having been registered. All citizens are being strictly advised to remain at home.

Zagorakis, a former footballer who famously won UEFA Euro 2004 with the national team, has pledged to donate 50% of his wages for the next two months to the foundation which is dealing with the coronavirus. The 48-year-old is currently working as a politician.

“The national effort requires all of our support! This is the reason why I am responding to the Prime Minister’s initiative. At this moment in time, it is important that we think of all of us, and not just ourselves personally. The battle is not over yet. We are at the forefront of solidarity, we must abide by the precautionary measures in place and stay at home!”
