The home side was coached for the first time by the newly arrived Italian manager Paolo Tramezzani, who failed to win in his debut. On the other side, AEL had five wins in five games, however if we put aside the narrow 1:0 over Anorthosis, all the other games were against lower quality teams, so they had a real challenge in front of them.

CYPRIOT SOCCER (FIRST DIVISION): APOEL defeated Nea Salamina on the road 3:2 and doubled their wins in the league. The game was one of the three that were postponed from Matchday 1. The defending champions were guided by Giorgos Kostis who took over after Bruno Baltazar was shown the exit door on Monday.

CYPRIOT SOCCER (FIRST DIVISION): Matchday three hosted the first derby of the 2018/19 Cypriot League season and it was AEL Limassol that took the three points on the road against Anorthosis at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaca. Anorthosis had plenty of chances, but AEL scored the only goal of the match, moving them to the top of the table with 3 wins in as many matches.
