GREEK SOCCER CUP: AEK easily defeated Kerkyra 4-0 at the OAKA Stadium in their opening match in Group F of the Greek Cup. Galo opened the score early in the first half as three goals in the final 12 minutes from Christodoulopoulos, Pekhart, and Diogo’s own goal shaped the final score. The win comes after AEK dropped points over the weekend in the Superleague and before their big derby away to PAOK.**HIGHLIGHTS**
GREEK SOCCER CUP: The Greek Soccer Cup group stages, which consist of teams from the Superleague and the Football League, began today with 5 matches. Aris and Panthrakikos each came away with big victories against Aiginiakos and Kallithea while Agrotikos Asteras defeated Kalloni and Apollon Smyrnis prevailed at home against OFI.
GREEK SOCCER CUP/SUPERLEAGUE: Days continue to pass and rather than problems being solved more issues continue to arise. A date has yet to be agreed upon for the Greek Cup Final, consequently creating scheduling problems for the upcoming SuperLeague playoffs. It does seem that the playoffs will start, as originally announced, on Wednesday.
GREEK SOCCER CUP: The Greek Soccer Cup is re-starting! The ministry informed the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) that the cup could re-start after the cup was suspended for more than a month due to fan violence in the semi-final between PAOK and Olympiacos. No fans for the semi-finals and only students for the final.
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE: PAOK will face huge consequences for the fan violence and suspension of the Greek Cup semi-final against Olympiacos in March. EPO’s Disciplinary Committee has decided to punish PAOK with -5 points in the Greek SuperLeague, 5 games without fans (closed stadium), and a €112,000 fine. PAOK will appeal the decision in hopes of getting a “lighter” punishment.
GREEK SOCCER CUP: The Alternate Minister of Sports, Stavros Kontonis, has decided to cancel the Greek Cup, after postponing today’s game between AEK and Atromitos. The decision was made due to yesterday’s fan violence in the semi-final between PAOK and Olympiacos, which caused the game to be abandoned.
