How Sports Can Make You More Productive At College

He who said “all work and play makes Jack a dull boy” did not only base on work but also studies. Can you imagine eight hours of study without break(s)? Tedious! Peachy Essay is here to outline how sports can make you more productive at college.

In my country, there are lots of cases whereby high school students are massively burning down dormitories and classrooms. Why? When covid 19 was pronounced a universal pandemic, schools were shut down. Students had to stay home for nine months. Upon resumption of studies, nine months later, teachers had to go through the syllabus quickly to cover up for the time they lost. This resulted in these skirmishes. Students are tired. Their brains are consuming a lot in a short span of time.

This article has tons and tons of information on what sports you can engage in while in college and their importance. These benefits include but not limited to improved health, improved physical appearance, sharpened minds and enhanced social skills. This will also keep us healthy during these unprecedented times.

Many colleges have different sporting activities like football, basketball, tennis, golf, volleyball, rugby, badminton and even athletics. No student is restricted to any particular sport. It’s always their choice. I love soccer, you love rugby and at the end of the day, if we engage in them, we will all be fit, mentally stable and sharp.

What Are the Benefits of Engaging in Abovementioned Sports?

1. Eases stress

What is stress? This is a reaction to fury, frustrations and/or anxiety in your life. Different people have different stress-relievers but believe me, sports do magic! Imagine scoring a hat trick for your college team and everyone cheers you. It feels nice. Doesn’t it? Will you even have time to remember what stressed you? No!

Signs of stress include a faster heartbeat, insomnia or even grinding of teeth. The brain has endorphins which are natural body painkillers. When you exercise, the brain releases endorphins, which in turn alleviate stress and improve sleep.

2. Improves your body health

You are said to be of good health when the functioning of your body is at its best. This is not only as a result of lack of illnesses but also enough sleep, healthy food and above all, regular exercises.

Good body health is attained with good regular exercises like sports. This will help reduce fats hence controls your body weight. When the body has enough supply of oxygen, fats stored in the body will be broken down to provide energy.

3. Increases the brain functioning capacity

This brain contains various nerve cells that make it easy for the brain to synchronize emotions, feelings, thoughts, movement and behavior. It also manages all the functioning of the body like heart beats and reactions to cold, heat etc.

The heart is known to pump blood at a higher rate hence engaging is sporting activities in school will boost the flow of blood to the brain. Once this happens, the body gets more connections with the brain. Eventually, the brain is stimulated to increase levels of creativity, develops your memory and provides answers to problems.

4. Increases energy levels

When you engage in sports, your body produces 150 watts of power hourly, which is very healthy for your body. As you engage in the sports, you will breathe heavily after minutes or hours of exercising hence there is an increase in the need of oxygen. This is because the capacity of the lungs increases hence the heart has to pump blood faster.

Eventually, your body muscles will get enough oxygen which in turn enhances energy secretion.

5. Improves your mental health

Mental health is affected by one’s thoughts, actions or feelings. These could be as a result of disturbing experiences, hereditary inheritance or any kind of abuses.

Engaging in sporting activities frequently helps to reduce nervousness and depression. The brain secretes serotonin which stimulates your body’s mood, emotions, and feelings by sending impulses to precise points.

The movement keeps your mind free from thoughts are depressive hence improves your productivity in school.

6. Sports create families away from home.

Sporting activities will always create a family away from home by working together and jointly to achieve a common objective. When living on their own (away from their homes), sports families will make them feel something larger than themselves.

According to (Martin, Carron, Eys, & Loughead, 2011)., the main reasons students engage in sports are for fun, to make new friends, to be part of the team, and to exercised.

You will realize that at tender ages in school, many students will engage in various sports. But as years go by, they gradually stop doing sports. Research has it that approximately six percent of high school sports students will engage in sports at college level. This is a clear indication that they possess greater skills. They aren’t doing it for fun anymore.

7. Sports build your self-confidence and self-esteem

Building camaraderie with like-minded people creates a feeling of belonging. Having college team-mates creates a good dynamic for the student. Balancing both sports and academic work is an indicator of solid foundation of work and/or life balance.

Additionally, sports teach students different life skills like competition when getting or keeping jobs, contribute to growth of social skills like learning to listen, betters their academic success and there are high chances of the athletes being retained in college.

Conclusion

If hitting the gym isn’t your thing, then try engaging in that sporting activity that you love most. You will keep fit, you will stay healthy and your mind will be sharpened. You will also have an increased creativity and thinking capacity hence a good performer in school.

Not only will that sport make you productive in school but also gives you a chance to travel and explore the world! We would all love to see you engage in rugby, basketball or even football, play until you share a ground with stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Go get those sporty vibes!
