PAOK Face Battle to Hold on to Christos Tzolis

International winger Christos Tzolis is one of the hottest young properties in European football right now. He’s been with current club PAOK FC for his entire professional career but the Greek side are facing a battle to hold on to his services.

Reports claim that English Premier League side Norwich City are close to agreeing terms for the 19-year-old but this isn’t the first time that he’s been linked with an EPL unit. It’s very early days in his career but is this the right time for Tzolis to make a move?

Canaries Fly to the Front of the Queue

With domestic league seasons about to start right across Europe, Norwich City seem to have moved into pole position in regard to Christos Tzolos. A report published on August 9th suggests that the Canaries have agreed a deal with PAOK which would see the player sign a five-year contract with the English club.

The initial fee is claimed to be in the region of 13 million Euros with sell on percentages to be agreed. The report goes on to say that the transfer is essentially done, subject to the player passing a medical.

Norwich Aim to Stay Up

Football provides us with a phenomenon known as the ‘yo-yo club’ and Norwich are a perfect example. This term describes a side who are regularly promoted to the top flight division, only to be relegated the following season.

It’s happened to City before and the Canaries are widely tipped to drop down to the Championship at the end of 2021/22. Sports betting sites affiliated with arabianbetting.com show Daniel Farke’s men as one of the favourites for relegation, alongside the other newly promoted teams Brentford and Watford.

Once the new EPL season has kicked off, those markets will switch to the live sections of each sportsbook, and they will adjust according to results. Arabianbetting will continue to update the odds while providing news and other stories relating to the English Premier League.

Readers can dissect those stories and, if they want to get involved from a betting perspective, there are sign up offers available from a panel of betting companies. A choice of funding options and effective customer service are among the other bonus features.

Norwich City may look to be a good bet for relegation, but the potential addition of Christos Tzolis and others might just steer the Canaries away from trouble.

Other Options for Tzolis

Back in February 2021, there were transfer rumours linking Tzolis with a move to Manchester United. Clearly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are a much bigger club, and the suggested fee was also loftier at some 20 million Euros.

Those stories are now quiet and United have not been linked with the Greek international in the current transfer window. Manchester United would be a tempting prospect if they were to re-emerge but they may not be able to offer Christos Tzolos regular first team football.

In contrast, Norwich City are far more likely to be able to include the attacker in their regular starting XI and he can make a huge difference. The Canaries have a prolific striker in their ranks in the shape of Teemu Pukki and Tzolis’ service from the wings can help the Finnish international to find the net.

Norwich have also signed USA international forward Josh Sargent from Werder Bremen so Daniel Farke’s men clearly mean business ahead of the new season.

Big Future

Irrespective of whether Christos Tzolis signs for an English club or he remains at PAOK this season, the teenager seems destined for a big future. He’s only 19 with just 56 professional domestic games behind him but he’s already attracting interest from some big clubs abroad.

He debuted for the Greek national team as an 18-year-old and he enjoyed a particularly productive spell in Europe, scoring five goals in nine games for PAOK last season. As a winger, scoring goals isn’t his main role but that tally offers a useful contribution and a solid back up to his long list of assists.

His potential departure would be a blow to Greek football, but it can only help the player’s development and that could provide a boost to the national team moving forward.
