Tsimikas Proving Liverpool Quality

Tsimikas Proving Liverpool Quality

There are few squads more competitive in Europe right now than the one at Anfield, and Kostas Tsimikas keeps proving he deserves to be part of the elite group at Liverpool.

While chances might have been limited for the Greek international this season, whenever called upon Tsimikas has justified why the Reds brought him to England last summer.

First Silverware Secured

Having moved from Olympiacos to Liverpool in August 2020, the 25-year-old has already landed his first piece of silverware on English soil. The Reds, who are 3.45 in the Champions League best odds to win the European crown, are competing on multiple fronts this season. A victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final has seen Liverpool secure their first trophy of the campaign, while they are also in the mix for the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles. While Tsimikas did not get on the field for the final against the Blues at Wembley, his celebrations with the trophy post-match showed what it meant to the 25-year-old to earn that first medal in England.

Tsimikas has earned much of his game time in the cup competitions and once again impressed as he helped Liverpool secure a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in March to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals. Tsimikas provided the assist for Diogo Jota to score the vital goal and edge past a Forest side that had already beaten Premier League opposition in Arsenal and Leicester City on their way to the quarter-finals. It was another performance that shows manager Jurgen Klopp can trust Tsimikas to step up when called upon.

Keeping Robertson on His Toes

While it’s Andy Robertson who is the first-choice option at left-back at Anfield, Tsimikas continues to push the Scotland captain for that starting role at the club. Klopp has managed to develop a strong squad at Anfield and competition for places is something that has driven up standards in recent campaigns. It’s certainly helping the Reds this season, as they go head to head with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Robertson is regarded as one of the best left-backs in Europe right now and, while Tsimikas might have to bide his time for Premier League starts, he can certainly learn plenty from the Scot. Injuries and suspensions have forced Robertson out on the sidelines at times this season and Tsimikas has shown he’s more than capable when called up. The Greek star’s crossing ability is something to be admired and works well with the abundance of attacking talent Liverpool have in their ranks. Patience will be key for Tsimikas but sticking with this talented Liverpool squad will reap further rewards down the line.

Tsimikas already has a League Cup title to his name and will be hoping to have a few more medals around his neck before the season is through.
