Washington Nationals switched Hunter Mcmahon for Ryne Harper

Washington Nationals switched Hunter Mcmahon for Ryne Harper

The Washington Nationals closed a deal with the Minnesota Twins on 29th January. In which they pulled reliever Ryne Harper into their team handing over right-handed pitcher Hunter McMahon.

McMahon who was ninth-round draft pick last year played 9 games with the Gulf Coast League Nationals. In which he went 2-1 with a 0.71 ERA. He struck out 18 and walked only 2. He was a red-shirt sophomore at Texas State University and played only one season with them. In this season McMahon made a 4.72 ERA in 14 starts. He struck out 72 and delivered a free pass to 31 batters in 87.2 innings. Want to get your hands on some Washington Nationals tickets

HARPER IN EXCHANGE OF MCMAHON; WHAT’S THE DEAL?

Twins got a big deal out of this one while Nationals had to depart a good future prospect. Well, Harper may not be a great player like Bryce Harper (their names rhyme) still could be a useful asset. He went 5-2 with a 3.81 ERA last year. Also, he pitched scoreless relief in 17/18 first appearances with Minnesota.

Now he will be joining the Washington bullpen along with Sean Doolittle, Daniel Hudson, and Will Harris. Whereas on the other side, Twins finally got way clear to let Josh Donaldson in on their 40-man roster.

HOW HARPER IS GOOD FOR WASHINGTON?

During his time with Twins, the non-roster invitee came up with a great technique. He had the batter in his clutches for a while bombarding them with balls at different speeds. The batter soon caught-up though but the point is if he can make up something like this one time, he can do it a second time as well.

A player who is smart with his play is no doubt a good prospect. Washington can get to use to such calculating character in their bullpen. It is certainly good to have another Harper on the team.

While Bryan Harper played eight seasons in the Washington Nationals he never was able to make it past Triple-A. On the other hand, his little brother Bryce Harper is a noticeable player.

Ryne Harper, however, has played around 61 games with Twins. In which he completed over 54.1 innings, posted a 1.178 WHIP and his K/BB ratio was 5.00. May not be exceptional but quite admiring.

CONCLUSION:

McMahon and Harper's deal was obviously a give and take one. Where Washington lost a great future prospect, they gained one that could be valuable. The only thing to be seen is how they take his advantage in the upcoming spring training.
