Who Are The Favourites To Win The Champions League In 2022/23?

The Champions League is underway, and already people are talking about who the runners and riders will be in Europe’s top club competition this season. Last season's final saw Real Madrid edge out Liverpool in Paris, but will they be there or thereabouts again in 2022/23?

Manchester City

Manchester City were heavily fancied to go all the way last season but came up short against eventual winners Real Madrid. And looking at the betting on the Champions League this year, Manchester City are the team fancied once again, and the reason why is, of course, Erling Haaland. The twenty-two-year-old Norwegian has been seen as the missing piece of the puzzle, and with thirteen goals in nine games across all competitions so far and three in two in the Champions League, this could well be City’s year.

PSG

PSG, like City, are one of the richest teams on the planet. And this has allowed the French outfit to put together a star-studded squad. While Haaland is seen as one of the best strikers around, who can go on to become an all-time great, so is PSG’s Kylian Mbabbe. And while the French champions are strong all over the pitch, it’s the front three of Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar that stands out. And it’s this unit that can fire them to success in Europe this season.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are one of those teams who are always in the running to win tournaments such as the Champions League. They may have lost Robert Lewandowski in the summer to Barcelona, but their squad, which is already loaded with quality, has been boosted by the arrival of Sadio Mane from Liverpool. They’ve already beaten Inter and Barca by 2-0 scorelines in the competition this season and are looking good to go on and win Group C and progress already.

Liverpool

Liverpool are very similar to Bayern Munich in terms of always being a team who go well in Europe, as proven by their Champions League successes, and they were last season’s beaten finalists. Also, akin to Bayern, they saw one of their key men leave in Mane, who joined the German giants. After a terrible start where they were well beaten by Napoli, Liverpool bounced back against Ajax. And, if they can get their star players back to the levels they are capable of hitting, they’ll be hard to stop in the group stage and beyond.

Real Madrid

How can you make a list of teams fancied to win the Champions League and not include the defending champions? Real Madrid are ranked as outsiders by bookmakers, but with Carlo Ancelotti in the dugout, they’re always going to have a chance. And, it’s not like they don’t have the quality on the pitch either. Los Blancos managed to strengthen by recruiting the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni, and with Karim Benzema leading the line, they’re always going to be in with a chance of defending their crown.
