AEK Finishes Poyet

Drastic changes happening for AEK! Gustavo Poyet announced today that he will leave AEK at the end of the summer, catching everyone at the club off-guard. AEK President was furious with Poyet's announcement with deciding to sack the Uruguayan coach immediately.

Poyet's decision comes at a critical point in the season for AEK. Within the next 7 days, the black and yellows have both Greek Cup Semi-final legs against Atromitos. Additionally, once the Cup concludes, AEK will take part in the SuperLeague Playoffs for a place in next year's Champions League. The timing of Poyet's announcement angered Melissanidis and resulted in his immediate termination as manager of AEK.

Stelios Manolas will be the interim manager for tomorrow's first leg match against Atromitos for the Greek Cup Semi-Finals. He will be in charge of AEK for the remainder of the season which will include the Greek Cup and SuperLeague Playoffs. Before today, Manolas was in charge of AEK U-20 team and also served as interim manager when Trianos Dellas was sacked earlier in the season.
