- Katsikaris Signs With Lokomotiv Kuban -
Fotis Katsikaris will be the new head coach of Russian side Lokomotiv Kuban. The National Team’s coach will take over Georgios Bartzokas’ position after Bartzokas signed a deal with Barcelona.
Lokomotiv Kuban will be in the hands of yet another Greek coach after Fotis Katsikaris signed a deal with the club. The Russian side made it to the Final-4 of last year’s Euroleague with Georgios Bartzokas in charge. Bartzokas left Lokomotiv Kuban at the end of this season, signing wiith Barcelona earlier in the summer.
Last season, Katsikaris coached in Spain for Murcia leading his side to the quarter-finals in the Spanish ACB League Playoffs. He has also been the head coach of the Greek National Basketball team since 2014. His contract is not expected to be renewed after Greece’s early exist at Eurobasket 2015 (quarter-finals) and their failed attempt to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio. According to reports, the Hellenic Basketball Federation prefers a coach that will solely be in charge of the National Team without concurrently coaching a club team.
