TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
 

Fencing - Women's Individual Foil, Round of 64: Aikaterini Kontochristopoulou
***Kontochristopoulou was defeated 15-13 by Do Anh from China in the Round of 64 of the Women's Fencing Individual Foil Event. The 19-year old was eliminated in her first match at Rio 2016.

Rowing – Men's Coxless Four, Semi-final A: Angelopoulos, Christou, Tsilis & Tziallas
***All rowing events were canceled today due to heavy winds. The race will be rescheduled for tomorrow at 8:30 AM

Water Polo - Men's Tournament, Group A: Greece
***Greece came away with a dramatic late 8-8 draw against Hungary in the 3rd Group Match of the Men's Tournament. Full match report here...

Judo - Men's 90kg, Round of 32: Ilias Iliadis
***The biggest disappointment of the day came in Round of 32 of the Men's 90kg Judo Event. Former Olympic Champion, and current bronze medalist (London 2012), Ilias Iliadis was eliminated by Ippon, 45 seconds into his match by Cheng Xunzhao from China. Full report here..

Sailing – Men’s 470, Preliminary Races: Kagialis & Maniatis
***Kagialias & Maniatis began in the preliminary races of their event finishing the first race in 9th and the second race in 3rd. They are currently 4th after 2 races.

Sailing – Men’s Finn, Preliminary Races: Ioannis Mitakis
***Mitakis continued in the Finn Event claiming 3rd place in the 3rd race and 2nd place in the 4th race. He is currently 4th in the preliminaries jumping 8 places from yesterday's rank.

Sailing – Mixed-Narca 17, Preliminary Races: Bekatorou & Petaniotis
***It was a rough start for Bekatorou & Petaniotis in their opening two races and they finished in 12th overall after the first day.

 Swimming – Men’s 200m Backstroke, Heat 3: Apostolos Christou
***Chrsitou finished his heat in last place with a time of 1:59.78, far away from his best performance, and was eliminated from the competition. He ranked 24th overall.

 Swimming – Men’s 200m Medley, Heat 3 & Semifinals: Andreas Vazaios
***The European Champion Andreas Vazaios became the first Greek swimmer at Rio 2016 to qualify for the semi-finals of an event after finishing his heat in 1:59.33. He qualified as the 9th overall in the semi-finals and 3rd from his heat. Unfortunately, in the semi-finals he claimed 7th place in the second heat with a time of 1:59.54. He ranked 11th overall in the competition, the highest ranked Greek swimmer at these Olympics Games, and did not progress to tomorrow's final.
