AGONAsport.com brings you a recap of all of Greece’s Athletes that competed in Day 7 (Friday, August 12) of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
Shooting – Men's skeet, Qualifications Day 1: Efthimios Mitas
***Mitas went 69/75 in the men's skeet and finished 22nd in today's qualifying round. Tomorrow the qualifying round will conclude as the Greek athlete will need much improvement for any hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Track & Field – Women’s Heptathlon, Multiple Events: Sofia Yfantidou
***Yfantidou is in 25th place with 980 points after the first four events in the Women's Heptathlon. She competed in 4 different events including the 100 m (25th with 13.99 seconds), High Jump (29th with 1.65 m), Shot Put (22nd with 13.97 m), and 200 m dash (29th with 26.32 seconds). The heptathlon consists of 30 athletes and will conclude tomorrow.
Rowing – Men’s Coxless Four, Final B: Greece
***Greece's Men's Coxless Four team finished in 2nd place of the B Final to claim 8th place overall in the event. The United States finished first while Belarus claimed 3rd spot only 0.01 seconds behind the Greek team.
TRACK & FIELD– Women's 10000m, FINAL: Alexi Pappas
***Alexi broke her Greek record in today's race with a time of 31:36.16 to finished 17th in the event.
WEIGHTLIFTING – Men's 85kg, Group B: Theodoros Iakovidis
***Iakovidis claimed 2nd place in group B lifting 350 mg. The Greek athlete claimed 12th place overall.
Swimming – Women’s 50m Freestyle, Heat 9 (12:26 PM): Theodora Drakou
***Drakou finished 5th in Heat 9 with a time of 25.36 in the Women's 50 m Freestyle. She did not qualify for the semi-finals and claimed 31st overall.
Swimming – Men's 4 x 100m Medley, Heat 2: Greece
***The Greek team that composed of Vazaios, Gkolomeev, Christou, and Samilidis finished in 8th place of the 2nd heat and failed to qualify for the event's final. They claimed 15th overall with a time of 3:36.75
Sailing – Men’s RSX, Preliminary Races 10-12: Byron Kokkalanis
***Kokkalanis finished the preliminary round in 5th place and qualified for the medal race on Sunday with high hopes for a top 3 finish. Full story here...
Sailing – Men’s 470, Preliminary Races 4-5: Kagialis & Maniatis
***Kagialias & Maniatis finished in 5th for the 4th race and 13tn the 6th race, falling one place (to 4th) in the overall standings in the preliminary round.
Sailing – Women's RSX, Preliminary Races 10-12: Angeliki Skarlatou
***Skarlatou finished the preliminary round in 19th place overall and did not qualify for the medal race on Sunday. In today's final 3 races she finished in 16th, 20th, and 16th place.
TRACK & FIELD– Men's 20km Walk, FINAL: Alexandros Papamichail
***Papamichail put on a good showing in the Men's 20km walk. He finished in 20th with a time of 1:21:55. The gold medal to Wang Zhen from China with a time of 1:19:14.
Water Polo - Men's Tournament, Group Stage: Greece - Brazil (9 - 4)
***Greece dominated Brazil 9-4 in a clash for first place in group A. Full story here...
Track & Field– Men's Long Jump, Qualifying: Michalis Tentoglou
***Tentoglou did not qualify for the event's final after jumping 7.64 m and finishing in 27th place .
