Ibarbo Parts Ways With Panathinaikos, Wakaso Loaned to Granada

-- Ibarbo Parts Ways With Panathinaikos, Wakaso Loaned to Granada --

Panathinaikos continued their “cleaning of the roster” by breaking their contract with Victor Ibarbo and loaning Mubarak Wakaso off to Spanish club Granada.

Victor Ibarbo and Panathinaikos parted ways after the two sides agreed to break their current contract. This matter, which has taken over a month to be resolved, has finally come to an end as the Colombian has been absent from practices since the end of December. His release opens up a place on the roster for a non-European/foreign player.

Ibarbo played at the Trifylli for just under six months on loan from Cagliari, registering 19 appearances for the club while scoring only three goals (all three in the Europa League). Panathinaikos were rumored to replaced Ibarbo’s “foreign” position on the roster with Panionios’ Masoud, however the transfer did not go through as the two teams could not agree on a transfer fee.

Mubarak Wakaso will finish the season on loan in Spain at Granada. Panathinaikos officially announced the loan deal earlier today. Wakaso wanted to return to the La Liga after making 16 appearances this year and scoring only one goal in Greece. The loan deal does have a buy-out clause if Granada choose to buy the player from Panathinaikos at the end of the season. This move also frees up another non-European/foreign player position on Panathinaikos’ roster.
