Olympiacos’ second half complacency led to their second defeat of the season to Galatasaray as they fell 71-80 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium
It looked as if it was going to be an easy night for Olympiacos against one of the Euroleague’s lowest placed teams, Galatasaray, with the Erythrolefki taking a commanding double digit lead in the first half. The hosts led by as many as 16 points in the opening half, however it was a completely different story after the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Galatasaray came out on a mission and took full advantage of Olympiacos’ lackluster defense (and complacency) to bring the game on level terms. It was more of the same in the final quarter with the visitors taking the lead with 5 minutes to play before Micov, who was Galatasaray’s best player on the night, caught fire to lead his side to a shocking 71-80 victory.
Micov finished the game with 18 points for Galatasaray while Printezis and Green scored 14 points each for Olympiacos. The Erythrolefki had a tragic night from behind the arch going 2/20!
Olympiacos’ second defeat of the season to Galatasaray brings their record down to 18-8 as they sit in third place, one win behind the leaders CSKA Moscow and Real Madrid. Galatasaray move up to 9-17 and claim 13th place.
