Reports out of Athens indicate that AEK are close to complete the signing of Nikos Zisis, nearly 15 years after he left the club to set out on an impressive career at the highest levels of European basketball.

Sources close to the situation have revealed that AEK are reportedly offering Zisis a return to Greek basketball with a contract through to the end of the 2020/2021 season.

Zisis remains under contract at Spanish side Joventut Badalona, whom he joined in July after a four-year stint in Germany with Brose Bamberg. Reports indicate that Joventut brass are prepared to grant Zisis a release provided he wishes to return to Greece.

Having started his career at AEK in 2000, Zisis spent five years with the Vasilissa before moving abroad with stints in Italy, Russia, Spain, Turkey, and Germany.

AEK are hoping that by luring Zisis back to Greece the former Greek international will finish up his career in the Greek capital by helping the club make yet another deep run in the Basketball Champions League as well as contending for domestic silverware.

AEK currently second in the Basket League standings while the club hold a 7-4 record in the Basketball Champions League and appear destined to progress to the Round of 16.
