With a little over a minute remaining, AEK found themselves trailing by six points to Rethymno at the OAKA, but the Kitrinomavri subsequently completed a dramatic comeback as Vasilis Toliopoulos successfully converted two free throws with three seconds left on the clock.

Moments earlier, Ramon Harris squandered a golden opportunity to seal the deal for Rethymno, as he missed two free throws of his own.

Mario Chalmers and Jonas Maciulis had previously scored two superb three-pointers in quick succession to give AEK hope of somehow emerging victorious.

Rethymno, who are still yet to win a single game on the road during the 2019/2020 Basket League season, initially took the first two quarters before AEK gradually gained the initiative as the match progressed.

Chalmers registered 26 points for AEK, while Linos Chrysikopoulos (17) and Vladimir Jankovic (11) also reached double figures in terms of points. Conner Frankamp was the leading scorer for Rethymno with an impressive haul of 25 points in Athens.

AEK currently occupy second place of the standings with 14 wins and four defeats from 18 games. Rethymno, on the other hand, are in seventh with an 8-11 record.

At the weekend, AEK will face Panionios in Palaio Faliro, while Rethymno will next play on March 7 against Promitheas away from home.
