AEK 74-66 SAN PABLO BURGOS (GROUP B)

AEK are motoring again. Following an initial poor start to the season, the Kitrinomavri are now edging towards their best again, and they tallied their fifth consecutive victory across all competitions on Wednesday evening with a 74-66 triumph over San Pablo Burgos of Spain.

The Enosis immediately put themselves in control by winning the first quarter by nine points. To their credit, San Pablo drew the second and won the third by one point to give themselves a fighting chance, but AEK stood tall to the challenge and registered their fourth victory in five Basketball Champions League group games.

Unsurprisingly, Keith Langford once again took a leading role for AEK, scoring a huge 30 points in the game. Langford has been AEK’s standout player of the campaign so far.

Next week, AEK welcome RASTA Vechta to the OAKA, while San Pablo host Hapoel Jerusalem.

PAOK 95-91 HAPPY CASA BRINDISI (GROUP D)

It was certainly a happy evening for PAOK against Happy Casa Brindisi of Italy. It proved to be a tight, tense encounter in Thessaloniki as the first two quarters ended level, but PAOK won the fourth period 25-19 to sneak a four-point win. This is PAOK’s maiden continental victory of the campaign.

Happy Casa Brindisi possess a 2-3 record in the tournament.

Adam Smith (27 points) and JeQuan Lewis (18 points) stood out for PAOK with their effective play in attack.

On matchday six, PAOK will play against Zaragoza in Greece, while Happy Casa Brindisi host Szombathely.

MORNAR BAR 65-73 PERISTERI (GROUP C)

Peristeri needed this win. Initially, Peristeri made a wonderful start to the competition, but they required the points on Tuesday after they had conceded two successive defeats to Tenerife and Nizhny Novgorod respectively.

Mornar Bar were in the box seat at the half-time break as they won the first two periods by four and three points respectively. Nevertheless, Peristeri kept on plugging away, winning the third quarter 13-11 before bursting to life in the fourth as they won it 27-14.

Will Hatcher was in superb form as he scored 23 points in Montenegro.

Peristeri will make the trip to Germany to play against Bamberg next week. Mornar Bar, who are yet to win a game in the Basketball Champions League this year, will take on Nymburk on the road.

PROMITHEAS FALL IN MONACO

At the weekend, Promitheas had stolen the headlines in Greece as they famously beat Panathinaikos in the cup quarter-finals, but they were thrashed 80-59 by Monaco on Wednesday in the EuroCup.

Promitheas completely capitulated in the first quarter as Monaco won it 33-6 to practically finish the match as a contest.

The Patras-based organisation will host Ratiopharm in the next EuroCup game scheduled for November 20.
