On Sunday evening, the reigning Greek champions hosted PAOK at the Olympic Stadium, grabbing a late equaliser to draw 1:1 against the Super League leaders. However, AEK could be deducted three points from the league table, as the police report published after the game revealed that violent skirmishes erupted upon the match’s conclusion.

At 21:30, after the AEK-PAOK match ended at the OAKA, a group of around 500 masked home supporters moved around the perimeter of the arena launching flares, stones, bottles and other objects at police. At the same time, police had to use tear gas to disperse 100 other AEK fans next to the OAKA basketball court, while inside the main football stadium, the authorities intervened as fans were throwing bottles and a plastic seat at PAOK officials.

As a result of those episodes, AEK are now running the risk of being deducted three points from the 2018/2019 Super League standings, playing between 2-4 home matches behind closed doors and receiving a fine from 50,000 to 250,000 euros. Nevertheless, on a more positive note for AEK, no policeman was injured by the fans’ actions, which means the punishments forthcoming for the Kitrinomavri will be handed out solely on the discretion of the Super League’s Disciplinary Body.

Earlier this season, the Enosis were docked three points from the table and played two Super League matches inside an empty OAKA after fan trouble during the derby against Olympiacos. AEK currently sit in third place of the championship with 37 points in 19 matches.
