Third position could potentially be decided in Peristeri on Sunday. At the moment, third placed AEK possess a slim one-point advantage over determined Atromitos, and the Kitrinomavri cannot afford to lose if they are to maintain realistic chances of finishing a tough Super League campaign in the top three. Incidentally, Atromitos won the first game between the two sides this season, claiming a 2:0 triumph on the road.

AEK boss Manolo Jimenez understands the problems which exist within the team, but he is asking for a committed performance at the Peristeri Stadium:

State of the team after drawing with Panathinaikos: “That wasn’t a good result last week, but despite our problems, I am doing my best to defend the players. They are trying hard. We will do our best to finish in third place of the Super League and win the Greek Cup. We must continue being ambitious and to work in a positive frame of mind. There are always solutions available.”

Problems with injured players ahead of playing Atromitos: “In the coming hours before the match, we have to assess which guys are in a fit state to help AEK on the pitch. We will wait until the last minute to see who can participate.”

Thoughts on Atromitos after beating the Peristeri club in the Greek Cup: “Atromitos have a good team, which means it will be a tough, complicated match for us. They have players of a high level, so if we want to achieve a positive result, we have to make a great effort. We need to show our capabilities against Atromitos on Sunday.”

Opinion on Serbian midfielder Nenad Krsticic: “He is an excellent player, but at this moment in time, he is not playing at his level. I have spoken with him about this. As a result of carrying an injury, he hasn’t been at 100% in terms of fitness, and this has certainly held him back with AEK. I would say he is 90% ready now. He is likely to play against Atromitos.”
