Initially, Apollon fell behind in the first half, but the Athens-based organisation recovered to score three goals in the closing stages and put the pressure back on leaders PAS Giannina. The Ioannina club, holding a one-point lead in first position, will face AE Karaiskakis at home on Sunday.

Panachaiki, sitting in fifth place of the table with 15 points, struck first blood in the 31st minute.

After a free-kick was whipped into the box, Vasilis Vitlis attempted to clear it off the line, but he only managed to clumsily bundle the ball into his own net.

Nevertheless, after missing a handful of great opportunities, Apollon got back on level terms in the 71st minute as Javier Iritier displayed excellent skill inside the penalty area to beat both the defence and the goalkeeper.

Four minutes later, Marko Blazic handed Apollon the lead, thumping an accurate attempt from distance into the left corner.

Marko Markovski subsequently put the icing on the cake for Apollon in stoppage time, converting from the penalty spot.

In their next game, Panachaiki will host Panachaiki in Patras, while Apollon Smyrnis welcome Levadiakos to the Georgios Kamaras Stadium.
